the PlayLab

PlayLab is the creative practice space of PlayBrave.

A place where women reconnect with themselves, remember their worth, and begin moving their ideas and body of work into the world through the power of play.

PlayLab is a collaborative space to explore ideas, speak thoughts out loud, experiment, and gain momentum through conversation, creativity, and shared energy.

Because when we try to create everything alone, it’s easy to get stuck in our own heads.

Play opens doors that pressure never could.

And a woman in her play is a woman in her power.

PlayLab is where women come together to stop playing the exhausting games of self-doubt and start playing the bigger games of creativity, collaboration, and purpose.

It’s a space to reconnect with yourself, experiment with ideas, and support one another in becoming who you’re meant to be.

Many adults today are living in hypervigilance- constantly alert, responsible, and overwhelmed.

PlayLab explores how play helps interrupt this pattern, restoring creativity, flexibility, and joy, and reminding us that the path forward doesn’t have to be walked alone.

The Science Behind Play and Hypervigilance

Research increasingly shows that play is not frivolous it is a biological mechanism that helps regulate the nervous system.

When someone is living in hypervigilance, their nervous system is often stuck in a fight-or-flight state.

Play helps shift the body toward a safe and socially connected state (often described as the ventral vagal state in polyvagal theory).

In this state, the body can relax, connect, imagine, and create again.

How Play Helps Regulate the Nervous System

Studies have found that play can:

Lower stress hormones
Play interventions have been shown to reduce cortisol levels and decrease anxiety, even after short periods of play.

Restore emotional regulation
Play activates parts of the brain associated with curiosity, exploration, and reward.

Create a sense of safety
When the body experiences safe, enjoyable interaction, the nervous system can downshift from hyper-alertness.

Build resilience
Play helps people practice flexibility, problem solving, and experimentation in low-risk environments.
